Workshop Description: This class will focus on understanding Huck Lace, a member of a larger family of handwoven lace structures. We will learn about the structure of Huck Lace, including understanding the drafts, design options and special constraints. We will talk about yarns, setts, and color considerations. Prior to the class, each participant will receive a draft for a 4-shaft Huck Lace sampler along with yarn and sett suggestions.
A remote session will be offered approximately 2 weeks before the class for basic information and questions. The 2-day in-person class will allow for ample weaving time, with short breaks for presentations and discussions. Each student will receive a handout with information on Huck Lace, some suggested additional drafts, and a list of references.
Additional Information: Looms should be brought to class pre-warped and threaded according to the provided draft, with a woven header so that they are ready to weave.
Items to Bring: pins and/or labels to attach to your sampler to identify each section, as well as your normal weaving supplies such as shuttle(s), bobbins, bobbin winder, scissors, weft thread, pens and/or pencils, note paper, additional lighting and extension cords if desired, etc.
