SUMMARY:“One Warp\, Many Structures” upcoming workshop with Denise Kovnat.
DESCRIPTION:Denise’s description of the class is this:\n“As Marian Stubenitsky has shown in Weaving with Echo and Iris\, extended parallel threadings offer endless possibilities. In this workshop\, designed for advanced beginners and beyond\, you will begin the workshop with your loom dressed in a two-color warp threaded on opposites. (Drafts will be provided about 6 weeks beforehand.) Working with a variety of tie-ups and treadlings\, you will weave a series of designs in Echo\, Jin (Turned Taqueté)\, Shadow Weave\, Rep and Double Weave. The takeaway is a sampler of colorful patterns and a broader\, deeper understanding of the potential for extended parallel threadings and how to design them. For 4-shaft to 32-shaft looms.” \nWe have planned this workshop for two Saturdays and a Sunday in March – the 12th\, 19th\, and 27th\, with session as follows:\nSaturday\, March 12 – sessions at 9:30\, 1:00 and 4:00 (about 90-120 min. each)\nSaturday\, March 19 – same as March 12\nSunday\, March 27 – sessions at 1:00 and 4:00

DESCRIPTION:Dates: Tuesdays: Oct 12\, Oct 19\, Oct 26\, 2021. 7 to 9 p.m. EDT\nCost $80 Member $100 Non-Member (will open to non-members on 9/15 if not full)\nLocation: Virtual Workshop using Zoom\nMaximum Number of Participants: 15\nWorkshop Level: Advanced beginner: participants must know how to warp a loom and set up for a 4-shaft or 8-shaft draft. \nWorkshop Description: Understanding twills provides a basis for learning many other weave structures\, as well as providing endless possibilities for creative variations. The first session will review instructions that were sent ahead of time for warp planning and threading\, and guide weavers in planning a gamp for their own loom. (The wider the loom\, the more different threadings that can be included.) Weavers will have one week to plan and warp their loom. The second session will review tie-up and treadling orders. 4-shaft weavers will make at least two gamps using two different tie-ups; 8-shaft weavers will have more options. The third session will review results and discuss how to use our gamps as resources for planning future projects.

SUMMARY:Workshop - Inspiration and Ideas for Ikat Design (CLASS FULL)
DESCRIPTION:Dates: Tuesdays – July 6 and 27\, August 3 and 10. Starting at 7 p.m. First two sessions might be two hours\, others will be about one hour.\nCost $80 Member $100 Non-Member\nLocation: Virtual Workshop using Zoom\nMaximum Number of Participants: 20\nWorkshop Level: Intermediate – participants must be able to warp a loom independently and fully understand the basics of 4-shaft or 8-shaft weaving and drafting. \nWorkshop Description: Create a lovely scarf inspired by the fabrics of Guatemala! We’ll use the color wheel\, mathematical formulas\, yarn wrapping\, and a few other design tricks to plan a striped ikat warp in tencel or cotton yarns.\nWe will have several sessions on Zoom\, going step by step through the process of design\, warping\, and dyeing. We will start by learning about color and ordering any yarns we may need. Then we will design and wind our striped warp. Some warps will be tied and then dyed for ikat\, using a special knotting technique and easy to use fiber reactive dye. You will do the tying\, dyeing and then the weaving on your loom in your choice of twill or plain weave. For more information on Linda’s work\, see lindahartshorn.com. \nCLASS FULL
